April 22nd, 2020
Greetings from the NYSATE/NYACTE Conference Planning Committee. We hope that this message finds all of you healthy and safe at this most difficult of times.
In a spirit of optimism and hope, we have been meeting regularly to plan our fall conference, scheduled to take place October 14-16, 2020, at the Gideon Putnam Resort. However, with each passing day, there seems to be more evidence that social distancing and other measures aimed at stopping the spread of COVID-19 will last well beyond the next few weeks and likely into the fall. Many of our institutions are already making plans to continue offering courses through distance learning in the fall, and all of our institutions are bracing for the devastating financial fall-out from this pandemic. We expect that few educators will have money or inclination to travel to conferences in the next year.
Given the uncertainty of this situation, the Executive Board Members of NYSATE and NYACTE are cancelling the in-person 2020 NYSATE/NYACTE Conference.
In place of holding a conference, we are planning to host a series of webinars related to the impact of the pandemic on the work we do. In addition, we plan to arrange web meetings with decision makers, so that information sessions typically held at our conference can be simulated. We also plan to organize topic-based seminars or workshops, according to member interests and needs.
While a series of webinars, virtual meetings and online workshops cannot fully replace the exchange of wisdom and inquiry that we have had the privilege of facilitating in the past, we will do our best to support our shared work as we move forward.
We will continue to communicate about our plans in the near future. Until then, please take good care!
